Founder’s Guide: Ecosystem Environmental Awareness Test

Supsindex ecosystem assessment engine

You can have the sharpest business model and the most resilient mindset, but if you don’t understand the ecosystem you’re stepping into, the odds turn against you. That’s where the Ecosystem Environmental Awareness test (EEA) comes in. It doesn’t measure general startup knowledge or your psychological wiring – it measures your local market readiness. Whether you’re expanding to a new country, applying for a startup visa, or simply want to prove to investors that you truly know your backyard, this assessment is your credibility passport.

What the Ecosystem Environmental Awareness test Actually Looks Like

The Ecosystem Environmental Awareness test is a focused 40-question assessment, but those 40 questions are anything but generic. The test engine creates a unique version for you based on two critical choices:

  • Your target country: We currently cover 15 major startup ecosystems including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, India, and more.
  • Your industry: Choose from over 55 verticals, from FinTech and HealthTech to AI and Clean Energy.

The test itself is split into two equally weighted sections:

20 General Ecosystem Questions

These are anchored to the country you selected and dive into five foundational pillars:

  • Funding & Capital Landscape
  • Talent & Human Capital
  • General Regulatory & Legal Framework
  • Market Access & Commercialization Culture
  • Infrastructure & Support Networks

20 Industry-Specific Ecosystem Questions

These are keyed to your chosen industry and explore five dynamic areas that change completely depending on the sector:

  • Sector-Specific Regulations & Compliance
  • Value Chain & Supply Chain Dynamics
  • Industry-Specific Technology & Innovation Trends
  • Competitive Landscape & Incumbent Dynamics
  • Niche Customer Segments & Go-to-Market Channels

Every single one of these ten categories has been reviewed and validated by our global faculty members – a network of academic experts and seasoned entrepreneurs who confirm that these dimensions genuinely predict a founder’s ability to survive and thrive in a new startup ecosystem.

How the Scoring Works – Fairness Across Borders

Comparing a SaaS founder in France with a Biotech founder in Nigeria sounds like comparing apples and spaceships. Yet the EEA does it – fairly. We achieve this through a rigorous psychometric technique called Anchor Item Equating.

At least 20% of the questions in every test deck are identical universal anchors that appear regardless of country or industry. Performance on these anchors lets our engine statistically adjust the difficulty of the unique local questions. The result? A score of 800 in a “difficult” ecosystem genuinely represents the same level of mastery as an 800 in an “easier” one. No penalties for playing on hard mode.

Your final result is an EEA Index Score from 0 to 1,000, which immediately places you into one of four performance tiers:

  • Q4 (Aspirant) – Foundational awareness; significant gaps in ecosystem fit.
  • Q3 (Architect) – Developing understanding; good building blocks for targeted learning.
  • Q2 (Visionary) – Strong strategic grasp; near the top of your peer group.
  • Q1 (Legendary) – Investable-grade local mastery; top 25%, the kind of profile that catches the eye of visa programs and accelerators.

Please note: the EEA requires you to have completed the FPA test first – a foundational checkpoint before diving into ecosystem complexity.

Your Report – A Local Market Roadmap

After completing the Ecosystem Environmental Awareness test, your personalized report won’t just give you a number. It breaks down your performance across every category and subcategory. You’ll see, for instance, not just your overall score in Funding & Capital Landscape, but your specific grasp of Venture Capital Networks, Government Grants, and the Early-Stage Investment Climate for your chosen country.

Heatmaps and clear data visualizations show exactly where you’re fluent and where you’re at risk. This is your blueprint for building local market competence – whether you’re preparing for a startup visa interview, crafting a market entry strategy, or building trust with local investors.

Badges, Leaderboards, and the Recognition You Deserve

The EEA doesn’t just guide you; it helps you get seen.

    • Hit the Top 10 in a 90-day season, and you earn the Season Victor (EEA) badge – a timestamped proof of current ecosystem dominance.
    • Crack the All-Time Top 20, and you permanently wear the Apex Strategist badge, signaling enduring, elite-level local market expertise.

  • And if you achieve Q1 across all three core assessments (FPA, GEB, and EEA) at the same time, you join The Supsindex 1% – the ultimate recognition of a perfectly balanced, investable founder.

Your EEA score also feeds directly into our public Leaderboard, giving investors, government agencies, and accelerators a transparent view of your verified ecosystem capabilities.

“If you know Heaven and know Earth, you may make your victory complete.” – Sun Tzu

The EEA test maps your “Earth” – the precise coordinates of your target ecosystem. Master the terrain, and your battle is already half won.
